Menstral cycle out of whack

Patient

Q: My 15 year old daughter, who has always been just slightly overweight for her age, started her period when she was ten. They have been pretty regular for the past few years. However, over the last year it seems like she starts and stops her period every other week. She is getting frustrated and her pediatrician whom she visited in May 2011 didn't seem too concerned. My daughter appears healthy. She is 5'2 about 140lbs. Very solid girl, works out alot and tries her best to make healthy choices when eating. I was concerned that there was a reason her weight wasn't coming off for how much she works out and how well she does with watching what she eats. But now Im more concerned with why she is getting her period so often. Is something wrong?
