Mirena and 4 months of period

Patient : I got the Mirena at least a month ago but I have been on my period for around 4 months now. Is that normal? Plus my blood is brown. When will it stop?
Doctor :   The brown discharge does commonly happen in many women that get the Mirena. Other symptoms one could feel are nausea and some women even complain about loss of hair. Again there is no timeline when this will stop. If you continue to experience problems you may want to have it removed and look at other contraceptive methods.
