Muscle pain in upper left thigh area on leg

Patient

Q: I am a 60 year old female that has just recently started bowling again after a lapse of about 20 to 25 years. I do walk almost everyday anywyere from 2 to 4 miles per day. The other night I was bowling and I felt as though I had a catch in my leg. I kep t bowling even though the catch got a little worse. By the next day the pain was so severe that I could hardly walk. Again I thought it was just a catch and I could get it out. I am now on crutches and cannot elevate or even sit still or stand and it feel any better. I have taken muscle relaxers and tried the heat and ice packs but to no avail. I thought it would eventually work itself out. The pain is pretty bad sometimes. It is n my upper left thigh area and goes all the way dow to my knee. Can you please tell me what I may have done and what I need to do?
