My 11 month old son only has one kidney

Patient: My 11 month old son only has one kidney, we have been using Tylenol when absolutely needed for teething, but I have heard Advil works better! I have also heard that Advil can be bad for kidney function ? What should I be giving him?

Doctor: Hi. Thank you for writing to ATD.Though Advil may be a better analgesic but Tylenol used occasionally with a single kidney is relatively safe. For teething as such analgesics are not required. Topical application of oral ulcer gels should be good enough.Still if you feel oral analgesic is required give it only on your Paediatrician/Nephrologist advice.Hope this helps. All the best.
