My 8 yr old son has a small piece of lead in his gums.

Patient

Q: My 8 yr old son has a small piece of lead from a mechanical pencil stuck in his gums. What are the risks and should I take him to the ER?

Doctor

A:   Hi.
Thanks for your query.

I understand your tensions due to lead in it. If you know lead of the pencil is not very hard, you can try to needle it out at home, if not done then only you can go to ER and get this removed.
Any foreign body should be removed as early as possible.

I hope this answer helps you.
