My dad has diabetes and blacked out for several seconds

Patient : My Dad has diabetes, and normally has higher sugar levels than he should be having. A few days ago he blacked out for about 8 seconds, I tried to google what could have made this happen, but we can't narrow it down. :/ Was it hypoglycemia? Is there something we can do to prevent this from happening again? Or could it be the medication he's taking?
Symptoms:  Blacked out for several seconds, his stomach hurt after words, he said it felt like he was hearing us from really far away, and his hands were trembling afterwords.
