My fiance has always had trouble sleeping He can be

Q: My fiance has always had trouble sleeping. He can be exhausted but is not able to fall asleep. He also has what seems to be sleep hallucinations however they are not associated with sleep paralysis. The odd part about these hallucinations is that he remembers everything and is aware when it is happening. Often he will sit up in bed and tell me to look at something or say things to be but sometimes he jumps out of bed very frightened. In one instance he said he was seeing snakes but knowing he was sleeping, he turned the light on to wake himself up. Sometimes I will tell him he is sleeping and that he is okay and he will say "hang on.." he will then rub his eyes or blink really hard to try to wake himself up because he knows he is sleeping. Any insight on this issue would be very helpful!
Thank you,
