Patient :My gynecologist recently informed me that she suspects that I MAY have PCOS due to my lack of ovulation and heavy menstrual cycles. So she has prescribed me depo provera in order to control my heavy bleeding. (My periods have ALWAYS been irregular since I was 11 and it's very common for me to miss 2- 3 months of a period and then to experience heavy bleeding for over a month!) But they did a vaginal ultrasound and found NO cysts! They said my uterine lining was a little thick but NO cysts! So I have been prescribed depo. However, I am already obese (I'm now 300 lbs and I'm only 5'3) and the depo seems to make my weight worse! I'm really frustrated and scared! If I'm already obese then why would I be prescribed depo if the effects of it is weight gain? Was this smart for my gynecologist to do??? What can I do about my weight and my menstrual periods? Before depo, I was given regular birth control pills that didn't help my heavy menstrual cycle and since that didn't work, I was given depo. I'm 31 and looking to start a family in the next 5 yrs (no hurry though ) but what do I do now? Do I have PCOS?
