Patient :My son is 2 and we are currently in the hospital. He has had a fever for 3 days, and it has finally broken. He peaked at 104. The physician wants to test for encephalitis because Earlier he had a "spell" of staring off into space and afterward said his neck hurt. If the CT scan, viral swab, urine, and blood all show negative, will we still require a lumbar puncture?
I want to also note he has NO OTHER symptoms and hasn't repeated the stating thing. He is up, talking, playing, moving, and acting like his old self.
