Need help on medication to treat alopecia

Patient

Q: I am a 35 year old healthy man with a heredity of alopecia (baldness) in my family (Father). Around 1.5 years back I started noticing substantial hair loss and started treatment at Dr. Pauls. The results were satisfactory and the hair loss stopped, I even regained some hair. But as soon as I stopped the treatment (which lasted for 1years 3 months), the problem resurfaced. Can you help me on this? Is there a permanent treatment? Also, is taking a 5mg dose of Finasteride going to help? Is it safe?
