Need help with vanishing old scars

Patient

Q: What is a really good scar cream for old scars that was from a result of cutting?

Symptoms:  Deep scar, 2 years old (the scar), almost white, bumpy but yet not bumpy
Doctor

A:   Thank you for your question. Scars can be very difficult to fade and there are several over the counter remedies that are being marketed to treat scars. However, they are either ineffective or provide minimal results. However, there are some prescription topical preparations containing corticosteroids which can assist in fading these scars. In severe cases, scars can be treated with laser treatment by a dermatologist. You will need to consult a dermatologist to have the scars examined and determine what will be the best treatment option for you.
