Nerve damage

Patient

Q: I have been suffering from the nerve damage left from the acute pain phase of the shingles virus. It has been 18 months of pain meds and prayer. The pain and sensitivity from the nerve damage is relentless.Since the nerves do not regenerate what is going on with the damage if its not healing? When the pain does subside what's left of the nerves and will they function normally if at all? After many years of this pain is the prognosis just as bleak as the present?
