Patient :My 51 y.o. wife took her first dose of prescribed Nitrofurantoin four hours ago. She is now experiencing chills; cough; nausea; 100 degree fever; total body achiness; and shaking (from chills). I have read that all of these are common side effects from the medication. Should we necessarily be concerned? Would a "usual" response be to take her to the Emergency Room immediately?
