Normal iron levels, low hemoglobin

Patient

Q: I had two iron infusions last summer, which brought my hemoglobin from 10.8 to 11.8. I was retested last week and my hemoglobin has gone back down to 10.7. The test also showed that my total iron is 76 and my ferritin is 266. Why would my iron go back down after two significant infusions and also why are my iron levels normal and my hemoglobin is low? I have been taking iron supplements on and off for about 20 years and my hemoglobin has never gone above 11.8. I still have all of the symptoms of anemia despite the supplements including fatigue and sensitivity to cold.

Symptoms:  Fatigue, muscle weakness, sensitivity to cold
