Okay to immunize when sick already?

Patient

Q: My daughter is scheduled to go in for her inhalable flu shot (spray) this morning, but she has been up all night throwing up with the flu. Is it okay for her to get the shot at this time?

Symptoms:  Immunizations
Doctor

A:   Thank you for your question. No, we recommend that you wait until she is fully recovered. The reason for this is that influenza immunization can produced transient flu like symptoms which will compound your daughter's current symptoms. Once she is feeling better, you can take her to be immunized.
