Old patient with atelectasis in chest. To operate or not?

Patient : 6 by 3.5mm mass arising from 8th rib laterally. History of R thoracotomy. some linear and round atelectasis.patient is old.Biopsy or leave It? No pain
Symptoms:  Protruding lump above growth in the chest. No pain, no swelling. Doctor thinks it's a case of hematoma in the chest. He can't tell what the growth is for sure. No increase in lump size so far. Will a biopsy worsen the condition? Is it better to leave it be?
