Patient : My son is a baseball pitcher and he has had two surguries to repair torn labrums in his shoulder. He is giving pitching one last chance and his shoulder is hurting again. An MRI didn't show any more tears and his doctor said that the tests he did on his shoulder seem to indicate it's not a tear. The doctor has my son on cortisone pills for 10 days. He's on day 6 and after throwing Sunday and yesterday his shoulder still hurts some but only a dull pain. The pain is much less than it was a week and a half ago. Just wondering if the pain actually goes away while using the cortisone, what could be causing the pain when not on the cortisone? Will the cortisone take away the pain permanently or is this just a temporary fix? If he has another tear would the cortisone take away the pain? We'll see the doctor next week but I just want to know what to expect when we see him.
