Period During Pregnancy

Patient : I took a pregnancy test a week before my period is due and it said I was pregnant. However, I had a period last month. Could I be further than 4 weeks along even though I had a period the month prior? (Example: I had a period September 9. My next one is due October 9. I took a test on October 4 and it was positive but most articles I'm reading are saying I shouldn't be able to detect it that early if I had conceived after my September cycle. So I'm wondering what the chances are that I actually conceived after my August cycle but still got my period in September)
