Period while on birth control

Patient: I’m 44, been on birth control Since I was 18. Planned two children . Ortho novum 777 then sprintec foR years. A few years ago I decided to keep taking my pills consistently so I could skip periods for a few months, Seems I could never skip more than a few months and my body would force me to have my period, I would usually just let my body have it and stop pill for the week. In the past, even prior to the pill, my periods were only 4 days. Well, last Monday I was discharging brown, kept taking my pills but it was red, then brown and still day eight I have my period, I haven’t skipped a pill. Do I need a stronger pill? Is this memspduse? I thought since I was on the Pill menopause would not happen? What should I do?
