Patient :This is going to appear to be a rather 'trivial' question but I am suffering from a lot of anxiety on the eve of my physical. I am a 45 year old male, in excellent shape (non-smoker, never do drugs), I work out regularly, eat a balanced diet, and generally in very good health. But I have this irrational fear about the my physical which is scheduled for tomorrow. The source of my anxiety is the DRE. I first received this procedure when I turned 40, although I have no family history: my father is 84, and an older brother 52, no signs, symptoms etc. But I am very uncomfortable with a female practitioner. I would much prefer to have a male doctor. But I don't to appear disrespectful or that I don't take my health seriously. I know the PA who I will be seeing tomorrow but I want to cancel. I know this is an irrational fear but I just can't seem to get past this anxiety. Do you have any advice for me?
