It is possible that this infection has spread to the other reproductive structures of her pelvis resulting in a condition called pelvic inflammatory disease. This is a serious infection which if left untreated can be life threatening and lead to infertility. We strongly encourage your girlfriend to go to her doctor or emergency department to be evaluated and started on a course of antibiotics to treat this infection. Once promptly and aggressively treated, she should make a full recovery.
