If at 31 weeks you are experiencing contractions ( if you are sure) , then you must visit your physician for an ultrasound and cervical length monitoring to rule out any chances of preterm labour.
However, certain uterine contractions called Braxton hicks contraction are common after 32 weeks of pregnancy which are normal uterine contractions and no ways related to labour.
I hope i have answered your query.
wishing you safe pregnancy,
