Previous bowel removal affecting pregnancy

Patient: When I was 10 days old my bowel ruptured which resulted in my having an ileostomy and colostomy and part of my bowel being removed.I am now approx 8 weeks pregnant. Will having a smaller bowel affect my baby (or myself) in any way throughout the pregnancy?

Doctor: The surgery you had as a newborn should have no bearing on your present pregnancy. If you have not had any bowel issues since that procedure, then it is unlikely that you will have any issues during your pregnancy.
