Prolonged Stiffness In Upper Back

Q: I started a new workout regime last week and I know that being sore is a normal part of it, but my upper back and shoulders have been stiff and sore since day one, and it's beginning to interfere with my daily activities, like work and school. Should I see my regular doctor about it, or just tone my workout down a bit until the stiffness and soreness goes away?
