Patient :I am 58 yr old female not yet in menopause according to blood tests. I've had 4 biopsies, 2 sonohystergrams, Hysteroscopy, D&C, polypectomy and endo ablation, upteen pelvic ultrasounds. I took Provera 10mgs/day for 5 1/2 months ending in March 2014.
Last biopsy end of January 2014 showed "atrophic" after a heavy bleed during Provera usage.
I was taken off Provera mid-March 2014. Ultrasound March showed 7 mm thickness. Another ultrasound end of June 2014 showed still 7 mm thickness (no change from March) and, I've had no bleeding since then.
My gynecologist is asking me to take Provera 10mg/day for 14 days every 3 months to thin lining. My family physician is recommending Prometrium at 200mg to lessen side effects.
I am TERRIFIED of having another heavy bleed like I did when took the Provera.
Which one (Provera or Prometrium) would likely have less side effects and/possibly less of a heavy flood-like bleeding episode?
