Patient : I had thyroid surgery three months ago. i am a 54 year old woman who hasn't had a period in three years. after the surgery i started having light periods again. i have read that thyroid problems and menstrual cycles are related. so my question is: is it possible that i was never really in menopause at all and thyroid problems made me stop having periods and then once the thyroid was removed, i am now having periods again? what else could it be. i can't afford to go to a doctor again because my insurance paid very little of the cost of the operation.
