Radius and Ulna with plates

Q: My left hand radius and ulna were broken in jan 2008, for that i need to undergo a surgery in which plates and screw are inserted in the hand to fix the bones.
are my bones will be healed completely, i still feel my left hand is week as compared to right hand.
do i need to get the plates removed also i m fond of going to gym, can i lift heavy weights without any problem
