Rather Bad Back Pain

Patient : For the last couple of weeks, my back (middle up to between the shoulders) has been hurting rather badly, it comes and goes. The level of pain changes to. More often then not it starts out low and builds up to the point where I would be curled up into a ball if it didn't hurt so bad. My chest tends to hurt from the amount of pain and there is no position in which I can sit or lay that is comfortable until the pain passes. Sometimes, I end up waking up in the middle of the night in pain without having done anything the day to stress out my back
