Patient :I have what a primary care physician (in a ski area - so who sees a lot of damaged knees) diagnosed as a grade 1 meniscus tear. (But no MRI or xray was done) How long should I stay off of it for it to recover and what signals should i look for to know that it is safe to use again? I used RICE for about 3 days and have now stopped taking aleve and icing it. It doesnt hurt at all when I sit around but if I make a sharp turn it will flare. I am trying to figure out when I can first get on a treadmill or stationary bike again and exercise and when I can ski. I don't know what to look for as a signal that I should or shouldn't do something. any advice would be appreciated.
