Serious Sleep Anxiety


Q: Hi. I'm 20 years old and I've been suffering with sleep problems for as long as I can remember. I've always been a "night owl" but it's now gotten to the point where I feel like my life is spiralling out of control. It seems to happen in a sort of roller coaster cycle - I'll be fine and then one bad night pushes my system into chaos and it gets worse every time. I'm now unable to sleep until 5am and I wake up at 5pm, every day without fail. I have the most intense dreams which I can't wake up from, to the point where I'm getting lucid dreams. I had CBT for anxiety and social anxiety this year and it worked to an extent, but now I feel like I'm back at square one. I find it hard to speak to people and my doctor about it as I feel like there is too much to say. I've never been on medication, but am I at the point where I need to or is there anything else I can do?
