Severe cramping in feet and legs

Patient

Q: I'm suffering from severe cramps in my feet which go up my legs nightly, especially while sleeping. It usually doesn't happen to both feet at the same time, but I have had it happen occassionally. My toes part and cause me to jolt out of my bed. I've been walking on the bathroom tile to relieve the pain but it's happening far too often causing me to lose sleep. Please can you advise what could be causing this as I exercise regularly - cycle 20miles every morning, I drink plently of water and eat 1 or 2 bananas daily in a protein mix.
