Patient : I've had a boil on my left buttocks cheek for around a week and a half to two weeks. When it first came up, I thought it was an insect bite as it was small and flat and itched a bit. Over a couple of days it grew bigger and became painful. I started soaking in hot baths a few times a day and eventually one day while sitting in the bath, I felt like part of the skin had ripped there or was tearing off. Without thinking, I pulled the but of skin off and a long string of puss came out. Afterwards, I got just a bit more puss and then it turned to blood. Since then, I've been putting antibiotic ointment on it and keeping it bandaged (still doing warm baths as well) but all the ever drains is blood. It is about an inch and a half wide and doesn't seem to be getting smaller, but the pain is not as severe and it doesn't seem to be as red. Is this normal or should I be alarmed?
