Shoulder ache for months

Q: I have had what I would describe as a shoulder "ache" in both sides of my shoulders. It has been aching for months and still has not subsided. I have been prescribed naproxen and flexeril. This does not seem to help the dull ache I am feeling. Also there is no range of motion problem, I can even lift weights with no pain. The ache actually lessens after a workout. What could be the cause of this ache? Tension? Muscle imbalance? I was stressed this past year with a job but am no longer stressed. Could the tension still be lingering? I have recently went for a massage and will likely go for a few more sessions. Could the ache be caused by a neck issue? Appreciate the feedback thanks
