Shoulder pain due to past dislocation.

Patient: When I was 19, I took a fall while playing volley ball and dislocated my right shoulder. The doctor recommended surgery, but I couldn’t afford it. I’m 47 now and in the almost 30 years since I injured it, I’ve separated and strained it many, many times. Now I feel a sensation of tightness and every now an then it feels like it wants to pop out when I’m doing the simplest of tasks. My question is: how much damage could of been done to my shoulder going without medical attention for so long and what can I do to help limit any further damage?
