Patient : I am a junior in high school and baseball season has just begun. However, I was recently diagnosed with a SLAP tear in the shoulder of of my throwing arm. There is a lot of clicking and popping if the shoulder and feels like it is slipping out. There is some pain in certain positions and when I throw. Being an outfielder, I often have to make that big, long throw and I fear that if I continue to play, it will only get worse. My doctor brought up surgery at my last appointment and I wanted to think about it because I didn't want to miss the season. I am here to ask what are the chances my tear will get worse and how do you feel about me getting the surgery? A lot of people are telling me to do it so I can return for my senior year of football and baseball but I just don't know what to do. Please help.
