Spotting blood when urinating

Patient

Q: Dear doctor, I am currently experiencing a slight pain when I pee, and I have also noticed some blood. I am about to have my period next week, but I am afraid it is something else since I have never experienced pain when peeing before. Can it be an infection I got from a toilet xeat or possibly from sex?

Doctor

A:   Pain during micturition along with blood in urine is seen either in renal stones or Urinary Tract Infections (UTI). Rarely during periods urine might have traces of blood, but is usually ainless, so your condition is not associated with periods. Mostly it could be infection, which might have been transmitted from unprotected sex or improper local hygiene. Research don't support transmissin of infection from toilet seats. Consult a gynecologist for further advise and treatment.
