Starting the pill to avoid a period

Patient : Hi, I was just wondering if I could start a pill to avoid getting a period as I am going on holiday in 34 days and I am a regular 28 day girl, I am due for my period in 7 days (if I was to start a pill now or when period arrives etc) and continue to take it through the following month when my period was next due again would be when I was supposed to go away if I continue on the normal pill tablets and do not take the sugar tablets would this work to avoid getting my period or is this not enough time for the pill to be in my system for it to work??
