Strange Swelling of Throat

Q: Hello, I am Brittany, a 17-year old college student in Michigan. I have recently been experiencing some strange tightness/swollen feelings in my lower throat. At first, this was accompanied by some mild pain swallowing, like a common cold, so I dismissed it as just me getting sick. But the past two days the pain has gone away and now I just feel like my throat is very swollen or obstructed by something. It gets worse if I lay down, but I haven't had any sort of problems breathing, just discomfort. Is this something that will pass or should I seek more medical help?

Symptoms:  Tightness/swelling of throat, difficulty swallowing
