Sudafed and the common cold

Patient: Hi, I have a question regarding sudafed congestion and the common cold. I had an ear infection about a month ago and the fluid is still in my ear. My doctor told me to take sudafed congestion for three weeks to see if it helps break up the fluid. I am still currently taking the sudafed, and I was wondering if I can still catch the common cold while taking sudafed. My boyfriend has symptoms of a cold and I saw him two days ago when his symptoms first started and I was wondering if it is safe to be around him. Thank you!
