Sudden painful lipoma

Patient

Q: I have had a lump under my skin on my back next to my shoulder blade for about five years now. It has been soft, rubbery, movable, and painless ever since ive noticed it. It has grown over time. I woke up a few days ago and it was red, tender to touch, and a little bigger (i think). It is now the size of a small egg. It has never done this before and i am terrified that it is cancer. I am a 23 year old healthy female. I have a DRs appt tomorrow but I am worrying myself sick with anxiety thinking about cancer. Please tell me what you think the cause of this might be. Can lipomas get infected or swollen?
