Taking emergency contraceptives with birth control pills

Patient

Q: Hi I have an inquiry regarding taking contraceptive pills. I'm currently on the Mercilon pill and this is my first strip. The first day of my period is on the 4th of June and I started taking on 10th. I think that it's rather late and I'm wondering if I will still be protected from the risk of pregnancy. I have also had unprotected intercourse two times with my husband on the 12th, which is 5 days before my expected ovulation date (17th June), in which I received his semen two times. I am wondering if there is a high chance of me becoming pregnant, and whether or not I should take an emergency contraceptive. I have been told by a doctor that I cannot take the emergency contraceptive and the birth control pills together within the same menstrual cycle.
