Taking The Pill for Perimenopause

Patient

Q: I am taking Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo for perimenopausal symptoms, and I am in my early 50s. I love it, since I don't have any hot flashes, fatigue, spotting, etc. I am concerned, though, about the one week of sugar pills. Since they do not contain hormones, I am not receiving the benefits of the hormones: protection of my bones, for one. To protect my bones and for other benefits, could I just skip the one week of sugar pills and go straight to a new pack of pills and continue in this way, month after month?

Thank you!
