Told I can never take a pain pill or I will have a stroke

Patient

Q: I have a friend that says she had a stroke years ago and they told her that she could never ever take pain pills, or be put out for surgery ever again in her life, as she would most likely have another stroke due to the type of stroke she had and where it was located. Now she is in extreme pain and doctors want to do an endo and sigmoidoscopy without putting her out because they think she may have cancer. She said even if she does, they can't do surgery, but she wants to know. Have you ever heard of such a thing? Is it possible being put under or taking a pain pill could cause a stroke? I hate seeing her suffer. Thank you
