Patient :Is this possible? I'd had a terrible infection that had similar symptoms to a yeast infection (itching, strange watery discharge.) I avoided the obgyn thinking I'd treat it with over the counter meds but nothing worked. Finally, I got a raging UTI and could take it no more and went in. It was time for an annual, so they did a papsmear too. After that they took a swab of the discharge and checked it out under a microscope. The Dr was stumped and double-checked me for a foreign object (like a tampon, nothing too crazy) and came up with nothing. So she prescribes me a cure-all antibiotic and it worked. Fast forward a week and I'm back to normal but kept missing a call from the office. Finally returned it only to find out that the pap came back normal but that I had trichonomas. I've been in a faithful marriage on both sides for seven years. There is no question of infidelity but you know if you go back to the office, they're just going to look at me like I'm some kind of sucker buying my husbands lie. So anyway, before I open that can of worms, wouldn't she have seen the trich when she checked the swab? Could it be the mystery infection had grown so out of control it mimicked trich? I've read that paps are not a reliable source for diagnosis. And of course I've read countless entries of people online, some of them abstinent, with the same confusing situation. Just looking for answers.
