Uncertain ADD Symptoms

Patient : Hi, I am a 17 year old girl. I have always had problems with focusing and putting all of my attention on something for long. I believe I may have ADD but my parents do not think I do because my grades are very good. I've read a common sign of ADD is trouble in grades, which is why I am not sure. I feel as if it takes me twice the effort to get thing accomplished, and normally music or something like that helps. Is there a chance I have ADD if I am able to overcome my bad attentiveness most of the time with much effort? Can I get this diagnosed without parental presence?
