Patient : I am a 26 year old female who recently had surgery to save my life. I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. I almost did not pull through surgery because I had massive internal bleeding. I have been home for 2 days ( 4 days after surgery) and have developed a hard ( and rather painful) area in my vein running along my wrist bone, approximately an inch long, close to the IV site, that had to be removed because my hand got rather swollen. I called the docs and they said it was fairly common and to put a warm compression and ibuprofen. I also read it was fairly common and lasts 6-8 weeks or as long as it takes for your body to heal from surgery. It was only painful to the touch but now, a day later, it is in another vein that crosses over the first, and my upper arm aches. Is this normal or could this turn into a DVT???
