Very early menopause or birth control side effects?
Patient :Am I having side effects from birth control or very early menopause?
Symptoms: I am 23 years old and I have been on birth control since I was sixteen. I have always had extremely heavy and painful periods. I have been stacking birth control pills since I was 18 to avoid having periods more than about 3 times a year. Over the past year and a half I have been experiencing a complete lack of sex drive when I used to be very sexual, as well as extreme vaginal dryness and some itching, which I never have had trouble with before. Over the past 6-8 months I have been having trouble concentrating, mood swings, fatigue, general achey feeling, as well as waking up and night because I am suddenly too hot and need to throw off blanket or even partially undress to get comfortable (in the middle of winter). I have also noticed in the morning I frequently get spells of being extremely overheated and sweating, that usually go away after 45min to an hour. Am I going into menopause this early? To my knowledge there is no family history of early menopause. Or am I just having bad side effects from birth control that have taken years to manifest? I just want my sex drive back, but I'm nervous my doctor will think I'm a crazy hypochondriac if I tell him I suspect I might be hitting menopause at age 23.
