Warts changing appearance

Q: My 8 year old son has two warts on his elbow (have been there for a few months). Admittedly we haven't done much about them but were treating them with Aldera along with some others on his feet and knee but stopped when the others cleared up. On the last day or so they have turned an angry red, are painful, swollen and look like they have a yellow/whitish head almost like they are blistering. Any ideas? Are they warts? Can warts turn red like that? I'm hoping to take him to a walk-in tomorrow to be sure but am worried about how quickly they changed. Thank you in advance for your help!

Symptoms:  Painful red spots on elbow.
