The infection is spread throug h close, intimate contact with a person excreting the virus in their saliva, urine, found in breast milk and also in the bodily fluids. Pregnant woman who are infected with CMV rarely have symptoms, but the fetus may be at a risk of congenital CMV disease. Children may or may not show symptoms at birth but may still long term effects such as hearing loss and learning disabilities. This also is only seen in a very small fraction of children.
