What is diabetes and how can I manage it?

Patient: Could you please describe exactly what is diabetes? I’m 14 years old and I keep hearing my parents saying we have a long family history of diabetes.

Doctor: In simple words, diabetes means excessive sugar circulating in the body which can not be controlled without proper treatment.

The reasons are:

1. Either the production of the insulin which control the metabolism of sugar is not in sufficient quantities.
2. The body’s cells stop responding to insulin.

Contributory factors: obesity, pancreatitis, no control on diet, stress/anxiety, genetic factors.

Diabetes can practically cause any sort of complications anywhere in the body.

Some tips for diabetes management are diet control and regular exercise.
